    How to go about training for Mixed Martial Arts

    Training features and aspects of every sport has undergone series of evolution over several years. And so has Mixed Martial Arts. It is combat sport where striking and grappling techniques are quite predominant. MMA is a combination of several combat sports including wrestling, boxing, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, muay Thai, kickboxing, taekwondo, karate, judo and many more. Unlike boxing, MMA athletes don't wear boxing shoes to facilitate kickboxing and their gloves are pretty much different from that of the traditional boxing gloves.

    1. Core Training: Abdomen and back is the most important part which has to be strengthened properly by all means irrespective of in which sport you desire to become a professional. It doesn't matter whether you want to become a cricketer or a boxer. The same holds true for mixed martial arts as well. You can perform so many varieties of exercises to strengthen your core including sit ups, lower back extensions, and many more. In fact there are about 100 MMA specific core exercises and these are available in many fitness books and magazines. This helps in building your power, agility and stamina.

    2. Stretching is mandatory: Flexibility is very important for every sport. It is especially important for combat sports such as boxing and mixed martial arts. Without flexibility, you cannot become a versatile athlete. And it is mandatory that every athlete works towards his/her flexibility. Stretch your muscles every day before warming up, after warming up and once you are done with your exercises.

    3. Functional exercises: To become a professional MMA athlete, you need to perform functional exercises. Your workout regimes should consist of compound/multi-joint exercises which really helps to develop your MMA techniques and fitness which enhances your performance as well. Ditch those traditional body building workouts. Do more of close grip presses, supinated grip pull ups, straight leg dead lifts etc.

    4. Vary your training intensity: In every combat sport, the intensity of the sport varies through training procedures as well as matches. It is very important that you get used to such intensities and hence during training you need to vary your pace of training. This helps in building your stamina.

    5. Resort to circuit training: It basically implies performing multiple exercises in concession without any rest interval between each set. It is the best way for you to structure your muscular endurance programs.
